NEW BLOG! NEW STUFF!

I will using the old Bright Light Journal as my own means now to communicate new and upcoming endevours that i will be participating in, and oh there’s so much stuff coming up. First off,if you want to keep checking back in,the new URL is joeymansman.tumblr.com

Now,some of you might have wondered what i’d be doing since TBLM ended, and honestly im glad to return to finally have some time to breathe and completely revamp my thinking a bit. I’ve had a lot of time on my hands recently and have been using it for writing music, and lots of it. I dusted off some old gear and aquired some new toys and have been jamming with some talented people i know. One group called The Regency or The Coastal Planes (they still havent decided on a name) from saratoga is a group of friends that asked me to write lyrics and record vocals for their debut EP. They are incredibly talented and i cannot wait for you to hear them when we are done. We are doing a six song EP together and i’ve tracked two songs with them so far. More updates on those guys will be announced as we continue finishing the record.

Secondly and most importantly, my old bandmate Bill Hunsinger and i have started a new musical project that is yet to be named. We have just built a full lineup, but im going to wait to tell you who will be joining us. Together we are currently working on writing a concept album based on a story that Bill and i started writing towards the end of the bright light days. I will be singing and playing bass as well as writing 90% of the material along with Bill. It’s going to be very very different than anything the two of us have ever done together, and we implore you to stay tuned!

New Twitter name is @jmansman by the way, follow me for up to date developments on both projects.

Will i have two Ep’s out before Curse the Mariner finishes their album? Maybe haha.

I love you doooods just pickin’ on yooooo!

We’re not sure what to say except that  a huge chapter in our lives is ending. It’s been almost  4 years, and we’ve made the best memories and met some amazing people along the way. Sorry  to announce our departure so abruptly, just after many nights and long conversations we just decided it was for the better to finally retire The Bright Light Motion. We will all continue making music in other bands, just how  when and with who is something we are just leaving up in the air for now. Hopefully it will be in the near future. Our entire catalogue “Light Years.” is available for free download on myspace and includes 29 songs comprised of all of our original recordings,a few covers, and tons of rare bonus songs as well as 200+ Pictures of the band throughout our history. Looking for a rhythm guitar player

Thank you to everyone who came out to Putnam Den on thursday, we had a blast performing with some awesome bands and hanging out with good friends. Mikey couldn’t make it so we had a special guest playing drums for us, our good old friend Mr.Dave Radloff. Dave hasn’t played with us in well over a year, so we decided it was agood night to have a few drinks and play a bunch of old songs we hadn’t played in forever, including Aftertaste and Maybe if you’re lonely. It was awesome, and we’ll be posting videos soon.

Anyone who needs tickets to our August 6th show with Thieves and Villains (Al’s last show) please get at us via text, email,or facebook, or whatever. We have had a few questions regarding wether or not we will be continuing as a band without Alex and the answer is yes, so we would like to squash that notion right now. We will continue writing, performing, and recording as usual while we look for his replacement,so for any interested parties, here are the requirements:

1.Must be between 18 and 30 years old
2.Must have respectable guitar skills and equipment (preferably 5 years or more experience)
3.Able to tour regionally/nationally/and perform locally often
4.Ideally,it would be awesome to have learned our songs before trying out. it would help cut down on training time.
5.Must have your own transportation.
6.Willing to invest heavily into time/creative/financial commitments with the band
7.Prior band or live performance experience would help a lot but isn’t required.

If you or anyone you know might be interested, please shoot us an email (thebrightlightmotion@hotmail.com) or send us a message here. September would be the best time for us to start trying out. Thanks so much!
Wuv you,
Joe

Havent seen this in awhile…

Havent seen this in awhile…

With a sad and heavy heart, i regret to tell you that my brother and founding bandmate Alex will be leaving The Bright Light Motion. He’s been in our band since we started 3 1/2 years ago,and he’s stuck with me through the hardest, saddest, greatest, and best of times, and now it’s time for him to move on.The guys and i love him very much and wish him the best of luck with everything he decides to do.

Alex and i began writing songs together in the summer of 2005 while we were both in other bands we hated being in. We would just sit in the basement i used to live in and write acoustic songs all day long.Songs, which we honestly thought would never ever see the light of day..At the time,we were influenced by bands like Dashboard,Straylight Run, Oasis, and Jars of Clay to name a few. 2 years passed until we recorded our first official EP together in 2007 and formed a live band. Throughout 6 lineups in those 3 1/2 years,Alex and i remained the only original band members, continually writing, recording, touring, and sacrificing for the music we believed in. Together, the two of us played nearly 150 shows. In the 10 years that i’ve been a musician in and out of silly local bands, i have never taken myself or my music as serious as i did once i started being in a band with my brother. I will miss sharing the stage with him so much.

Please wish him luck and send him all your blessings and comments as he pursues other musical avenues, and please come out to his last show in the local area to say goodbye. Your last chance to see him play with us will be August 6th,2010 at The Cave @ Adventure Racing in Queensbury. Advance tickets are $8 or $10 at the door. To get tickets, please contact the band members personally through phone texts or our  Facebook Pages, the band’s Myspace Page,Twitters,or our email (thebrightlightmotion@hotmail.com). it would mean the world to him if you said goodbye!

Finally home after a long long drive, but it was well worth it. The day started out a little rough, but once got there we were treated well by an awesome staff and an awesome promoter Mr.Sean Mott (thanks so much man!) We played with some awesome bands today (Honor Bright,Greene Reveal,This Condiiton…just to name a few) and the cool people we met were so kind and shared some inspiring words with all of us. Hope to see you guys all again soon!

On the late night drive home from bennington, Bill and i had an awesome discussion about what life was like when we were all just kids and forming our first bands and remembering the excitement of our first shows, and first recordings, and just how innocent we all were. Man, what a ride these last ten years have been for most of us. I just want to say this: No matter which of us will ever “make it” out there, im sure over the many years that we have all been in and out of bands in our scene, we’ve all touched somebody’s life out there at some point. Im sure we’ve all gotten some kids through some pretty rough times in their lives, wether it was from the songs themselves or the community we created. Thinking about it humbles me.
